Is the Great Dane expanding? Are you planning on opening another location?

Here’s the dealio, current legislation prohibits the Dane from brewing more than 10,000 barrels annually. Currently we brew about 7,000 barrels a year. We have the limited choice of increasing can production or opening another brewpub...that’s not to say we haven’t investigated the possibility of a Dane in the Milwaukee area...we will keep you posted.

I’m gluten-free, whatcha got?

We have a Gluten Sensitivity menu available at all locations. Unfortunately, none of our beers are gluten free, but we are working on it. We do have Seattle Cider available as an option for gluten-free alcoholic beverages.

I heard that Heisman winner and former badger Ron Dayne started the Great Dane?

What’s in a name? Although we have nothing but admiration and respect for the former badger, he was not the origin of our namesake.

How did you come up with your name?

It all started in Poughkeepsie, New York where Rob and Eliot, founders of the Great Dane, were both attending Vassar College. During this period they spent a lot of time hanging out on Great Jones Street located in SoHo, Manhattan, thus the embryonic pub name; the Great Jones Pub. Like any creative process the namesake morphed, finally settling into “the Great Dane” due to it’s geographic placement in Dane county.

Do you serve brunch?

All Dane locations offer a Sunday morning brunch, however only two of our locations offer weekly buffets, Fitchburg and Hilldale serves a Sunday Buffet that regularly wins best brunch in Madison awards. The other Danes serve a limited A La Carte brunch menu. Check out our brunch menus for hours and offerings. Check out our Menu.

Do you have carryout or delivery?

We have carryout for both our food and our beer. We have food carryout available until late night at all Dane location. Check out our Menu.

Our six packs, Growlers, and Crowlers in the Madison area are available by law until 9pm. In Wausau, carryout is available until Midnight.

What the heck’s a Crowler? What’s the difference between a Crowler and a Growler?

Crowlers (a combination of “can” and “growler”) are 32-ounce aluminum cans that can be filled with Dane beer and sealed on the spot. Growlers are 64-ounce glass containers. All Great Dane locations have Growlers available and, with the exception of the Eastside location, Crowler machines. Typically the cost is $7.50 per Crowler and $13.00 per Growler fill (not including container).

Are you open on Holidays?

Holiday hours vary slightly, they may be limited, however even on the “big” holidays such as Thanksgiving and Christmas we are typically open. The only exception to this is our summer and winter employee appreciation parties.

How can I get the Great Dane to sponsor or donate to my upcoming event, charity or organization?
